My Childhood Memories about Shanghai
Project Summary:
Light from a street arcade leaks onto the darkened streets. A whole culture has built up around the claw machine craze. Within the claw machine, there store abundant vintage stuff implanted with my childhood memory: White Rabbit candies, double-deck toy bus, chocolate powder. The father and son are standing outside the window. A coin is pushed into the slot, the plastic joystick maneuvered, a button pressed, and the claw drops onto the 1980s Shanghai. There are three comparisons in this image: the traditional Shanghainese-style housing at front vs. the modern skyscrapers at back; the bygone foods/toys vs. the currently trendy claw machine; The father born in 1980s and the son born in 2000s. A harmonious combination of the old and the new makes the city look very unique.
