in the park
Issue One
"In the Park" is a hand-drawn zine that captures the quiet poetry of a small historical park tucked away in my neighborhood. Additionally, it is also an experimental playground where illustration, craft, and storytelling intertwine.
Rooted in the timeless elegance of traditional Chinese garden design, the park cradles a shimmering lake at its heart. A zigzag bridge dances across the water, leading to a graceful pavilion that watches over the seasons. Inspired by the delicate beauty of a historical Chinese garden, I pushed beyond traditional techniques to explore texture, light, and intimacy. I used a handcrafted crochet flower as a special binding way, blending soft yarn with ink lines to evoke a sense of tactile memory. Intricate paper cutting and embroidery-like lace decorations offer visual surprises, while translucent tracing paper introduces a layered narrative, like mist unfolding over a quiet lake. The lace ribbon, carefully placed, mimics the shifting dance of light and shadow across collage-crochet flowers, inviting readers to slow down and feel the subtle poetry of the space.
This zine is not only a record of a place I cherish, but also a reflection of how I interpret nature through mixed media and emotional depth.
